There has been a lot of talk about the IEDR changing their policy on personal domain registrations by lifting the restrictions currently in place. The IEDR have now consulted resellers (the vast majority in favour), and the IEDR board are to make a final decision next month.

.ie registrations broke the 80,000 barrier earlier this month. If this policy change goes ahead, the new registrations would open up a new stream of revenue for the IEDR and we could see Irish domains breaking the 100,000 barrier within months.

“Private individuals may soon be able to apply for their own dot-ie (.ie) domain name. The IEDR has announced that it has consulted with dot-ie resellers, who have said they are supportive of the introduction of dot-ie personal domains. This policy relaxation is scheduled to be ratified by the IEDR board in July.”

This is a notice to customers with websites on our supertuxy server that on Friday 22nd June 2007 at 17:00 IST (6pm GMT) our technicians will take the server offline for a memory upgrade. Customers on other servers will not be affected.

The upgrade should take 10 to 15 minutes maximum and will result in improved server performance especially during peak times.

UPDATE: The upgrade was completed successfully. The server is back online and considerably faster!

Spiral Hosting Limited has today warned customers of a domain registration scam.

“Domain Renewal SA” has been sending fake emails to some of our customers claiming that their domain names are due for renewal.

The scammers will transfer the domain and its ownership to themselves, forcing customers into paying exorbitent renewal prices.

If any customers believe they have been contacted by this scam, please open a support ticket or phone our 24-hour phone number. It would help if you could forward the emails to us.

We will send our own emails before your domains expire, but customers who wish to know when their domain renewal dates are, can login to our Accounts Area or contact us by email or phone.

Webhosting.info monitors the web hosting industry on a weekly basis.

This morning, libertyrms.info leapt into first place, overtaking hosting365.ie which was formerly ranked as the biggest web hosting company in Ireland by Webhosting.info

I believe the sudden change was possible as Libertyrms.info was formerly listed as a US company and just changed over to Ireland.

LibertyRMS.info directs to the Afilias website, who are headquartered in Dublin.

This is interesting as while LibertyRMS.info are ranked number 1, Afilias are also ranked number 16 on the listings.
